The Big Story is taking over the River of Life Church blog for the next few weeks! Use the blog to share your thoughts about the Bible as you meet together in small groups.
Our ‘Big Story’ group finished the eight week Mark Powley (Cell UK) material as part of Church Around the Table on Thursday. We have decided to continue meeting and for the next three weeks will watch Louis Giglio DVDs.
During our time eating at the table together we asked each other questions such as ‘how are you (no really, how are you?)’, ‘what is your greatest fear?’,'what would you most want to ask God about your life?’ and attempt to answer them as honestly as possible. After this we’d move to the comfy chairs in the front room (so as not to disturb the children above as it could get a little ‘loud’)and run through a synopsis of the weeks ‘episode’ and usually tackle the suggested group discussion. One week we washed each others feet or hands.
None of us found the weekly preparation easy and the questions posed were challenging to say the least. The material is helpful but limited in as much as it is attempting to pack in the whole Bible into 8 episodes. Overall our group enjoyed the experience but my comment would be that more time is required to spread the content of the material in order that participants are not so daunted by it’s intensity.
The last episode was very illuminating:
‘If Jesus were to come tomorrow what would that mean for you?’ To be honest, Im not sure I want him to. My life is pretty comfortable at present and I would rather he left it for a while!!! Ric
